SMNTCS founder Sama’an Ashrawi (me, writing this post) appeared on The Sound of Victory podcast Sounding Off to talk with hosts Courtney Cox and Perry Johnson about the intersections of music and sport in his life.
From TSOV:
“Sounding Off, vol. 3: Sama’an Ashrawi In our third installation of Sounding Off, we sit down with Sama’an Ashrawi (@sam3an), creator and host of The Nostalgia Mixtape (@nostalgiatapes) a podcast centered on music and memory. He gives a variety of memorable moments located at the intersection of music and sport and quotes some of the best sport-related Houston hip-hop lines to date. As promised, there’s also that story about Kevin Durant and Drake. Link in bio to the full podcast episode, a video breakdown of Sama’an’s stories, and a curated playlist based on our interview with him!”
Among the stories I tell: how I became friends with Hasheem Thabeet, meeting Hakeem Olajuwon, my childhood friendship with Nneka Ogwumike, and, The Big One, how Hasheem and I were at Kevin Durant’s house on an important day in the Meek Mill – Drake chronicles, the day the Quentin Miller reference tapes leaked. Not long after, Drake dropped “Back to Back” and eventually got a Grammy nomination for it.
